Sutton Coldfield Tuneless Choir have invited us all to their place for a day of singing and fun!

Date:   Saturday 23rd September 2017

Time: Arrive from 9.30am for a 10am start.  We’ll finish by 5pm but then there’s the option to go on to a pub or two for singing, eating and being merry. Detailed itinerary below.

Venue: United Reformed Church, 1 Brassington Avenue, B73 6AA.  See map.

Price:  £20 per person to include all workshops, tea/coffee/biscuits on arrival and tea/coffee in the afternoon & free fruit & sweetie table in the foyer.  Or pay £24 and get lunch included.

People:  The day is being organised by Lisa Martin (contact, 07969 436059) and singing will be led by the current and former leaders of Sutton Coldfield Tuneless Choir:  Melanie Sharman-Everton and Rob Atkinson.

9.30 – 10.00  :        ARRIVAL TEAS AND COFFEES

10 – 10.15   :           Welcome and Warm-Ups

10.15 – 11.15 :         Gospel Workshop  – Rob

Feel the groove. In this workshop we’ll be focusing on bringing out the harmonies, without bringing out the jargon! At it’s root an oral tradition, Gospel is the perfect aid for getting you harmonising – without the need for knowing your octaves from your minor thirds!

11.15 – 11.30 :        COMFORT BREAK

Cold drinks available in the café.

11.30 – 12.30 :       Rock Workshop  – Mel

Enjoy rocking out to some famous tunes! We will work on tone, expression and emotion that changes a song to a ‘rock hit.’ We will be utilising the power of the diaphragm and working on how not to strain your voice when singing loud and proud.

12.30 – 1.45 :         LUNCH BREAK

You can bring your own pack-up to eat in the church, or wander out to one of the nearby sandwich shops or pubs.  Alternatively if you pre-order, for an extra £4 the church can provide:

Jacket potato and salad garnish – choice of one of the following fillings – cheese, beans, chilli –  including a drink (water, squash, tea or coffee)

Panini with salad garnish – choice of two fillings from the following  – ham, cheese, tuna, tomato – including a drink (water, squash, tea or coffee)

1.45 – 2.45 :           ‘It’s All About Timing’ Workshop – Rob

Feel like you’re always missing the boat, and waterskiing on the wake behind? Coming in and keeping time in a song isn’t easy, but with a bit
more knowledge on musical timing and feeling the beat you’ll be at the helm, champers in hand, in no time. (Obviously not promoting drink-driving, even at sea).

2.45 – 3.30 :           TEA BREAK & CAKE SALE in aid of the Royal Voluntary Service

3.30 – 4.30 :           Guilty Pleasures Workshop – Mel

Singing is as good as laughing: Have fun singing some guilty pleasures that will make us laugh, smile and even feel like some toe-tapping. Smiling when singing can be the difference between no atmosphere and lovely listening.

4.30 – 5pm :           All Time Favourites to Finish!

If you wish to stay a little longer we’ll wander across the road to The Station Pub for singing to the punters in their beer garden (covered area available if raining) at 5.30pm.  There’s food there or the option to move on to The Royal for pub grub and other food options including a chippie.
